I grew up with guns. I am a gun owner. I have had a lifetime carry permit since I was 18. One of the conditions I gave my husband before we got married was that he also had to get a gun permit, and learn to use the gun that I store safely in our home.
When I was in Iraq during an active war, I never once had to fire any of my weapons to save myself or my battle buddies. This includes the automatic weapons I was responsible for. It is my opinion, based on my experience, that we don't need assault rifles weapon in our homes.
It's ok if you disagree with me; I always welcome disagreements and communication. My stance on this is also based on how children are affected by automatic weapons. I am happy to need a license to drive. Similar, attainable, standards made in collaboration with the NRA could easily be set for safe gun ownership.
